State Bank of Mauritius, in association with Visa International and MasterCard International is proud to offer a new level of security to its Credit Card holders who shop online. SBM has worked with Visa and MasterCard respectively to support the "Verified By Visa" and MasterCard “SecureCode” security feature which has already been successfully launched globally. Through this feature, SBM Credit Card holders will be able to perform Internet transactions using the latest security features as per Visa and MasterCard International guidelines.

The service is being launched under the brand name SBM eSecure. To benefit from this service, customers will have to register with SBM. They will then be issued with a unique password to key in when shopping online at merchants who are already certified by Verified By Visa and/or MasterCard SecureCode.

How does it work?

You need to register your Credit Card to SBM eSecure first.

If you are already an SBMNET user, you will be able to use the same SBMNET password for your Internet shopping transactions.

If you do not have SBMNET, you will be issued with a 7 digit user id and password through a pin mailer, upon registration to SBM eSecure.

For better security, it is mandatory for you to access your Internet Banking (SBMNET) screen on our website to change your password once you receive it.

Thereafter, if you are making a purchase from a participating merchant displaying the Verified by VISA and/or MasterCard SecureCode logo, you will be requested to enter your password after you've entered your card number, CVV and expiry date. You simply enter your password which will then be validated, allowing you to proceed with the purchase as normal.

However, if the merchant is not Verified By Visa or MasterCard SecureCode registered, the online transaction will go through as per existing practice without the need to key in password.

How do I register to SBM eSecure?
If you are a frequent online shopper, we have already registered your Visa and/or MasterCard Credit Card and you will receive a letter informing you of your successful registration. If you are not a frequent online shopper and you are interested to register to SBM eSecure, all you need to do is to drop at your nearest service unit to register your Card or you can register online.

What Cards can I use for secure Internet Shopping?
You can use your Visa and/or MasterCard Credit Cards as soon as you are registered with Verified by VISA and/or MasterCard SecureCode through SBM eSecure.

What is the real benefit?
The main benefit is that SBM has worked together with Visa and MasterCard to give you the added confidence that you are the only person who can make use of your SBM Visa or MasterCard Credit Card for online purchases.

How secure is it?
This service ensures that shopping with your Visa or MasterCard Credit Card online is just as secure as shopping with your Card in any physical store.

Where can I shop with Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode?
More and more online merchants are offering this service. Just look out for the Verified by Visa or the MasterCard SecureCode logo to identify which sites are using the secure Internet shopping system.
